THANK YOU TO THE MORENO CHILDREN

Thank you Becca & Christopher Moreno (children of Rebecca & Ele) for loyally helping our ushers with the lighting/extinguishing of the altar candles during our worship services. It is quite helpful, and so nice to know we can rely on both of you to participate in this way.

CANDLELIGHT SERVICE

Our annual Candlelight Service was held on CHRISTMAS EVE. The church is so beautifully decorated at Christmastime; and this special worship service, with carols and scripture, really gets you in the spirit of the season - in celebration of the birth of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ!

LADIES AID

Our Ladies Aid Christmas Party was held on December 13th at the home of Carolyn Goldstein, which was beautifully decorated for the season. There were just over a dozen in attendance. The hors d’oeuvres and lunch she had prepared for us were delicious. Dottie Schoenberg brought along her guitar & sheet music, and after lunch led us in a joyful sing-a-long of Christmas carols. A good time was enjoyed by all. We thank you Carolyn, and also your co-hostess: granddaughter Jami, for the very warm and generous hospitality.

Our January meeting will be at the church fellowship hall on Thursday, Jan. 10th at 10 AM. All ladies are welcome.

CAMPUS OUTREACH NEWS

By Christina Eickenroht

Jingle Jammies

Silly as it sounds, the “Jingle Jammies” women’s event that the junior girls in our ministry hosted a few weeks ago marked the moment of a potentially eternally significant decision for a freshman named Sydney.

Toward the end of the evening, I received a string of excited texts from Alice, one of the juniors whom I have been discipling for two and a half years now. Alice was thrilled to tell me that Sydney had just decided to come to New Year’s Conference with us!

Alice, Sydney, and the Gospel of John

Alice met Sydney at one of our large outreach events back in September. One of my greatest joys this semester has been seeing how Alice and other student leaders in our ministry have joyfully and self-sacrificially pursued newcomers like Sydney with the love of Christ.

Sydney came into college seeing Christianity as a joy-killing set of restrictive rules. As she began to spend time around Campus Outreach friends, she started to glimpse the love and joy that marks our student leaders. This compelled Sydney to consider Christ more seriously herself: she and Alice began reading the Bible together in October.

Here are some of Alice’s highlights from reading the Bible with Sydney this semester:

After Fall Fest, Sydney and I started reading John together every Thursday morning. God changes hearts! Though there were two weeks during which I felt like there was no fruit or that her hunger for the Word had decreased, God demonstrated his power to me, and I think to her as well, by changing the way she views His laws.

Game-Changing Conversations:

  • Reading John 1: Sydney said she’d never read the Bible so intentionally before and found it interesting to see what specific words meant.
  • Reading John 3: We zoned in on verse 8, “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” We talked about evidence and fruit of the Spirit. She said that, like the trees that rustle when the wind blows through them, she wants to be a tree that “rustles” through the movement of the Spirit. That’s when our catchphrase, “Are you rustlin’?” was born.
  • Reading John 4: We talked about how Jesus satisfies (John 6) and what we turn to in order to find temporary satisfaction. Prayed through Psalm 119: 41-48 and 65-72. She prayed that God would take out her heart of stone and give her a heat of flesh, that she would delight in His commandments, knowing that they are not established to restrict her but to give her true freedom, and that God would give her a heart that genuinely cares for Him.
  • John 5: Sydney asked herself if she wanted to be healed. Conclusion: not sure.
  • John 15: BIG turning point. Discussion on how Jesus came and gives us His Word so that His joy may be in us, and that our joy may be full. Talked about differences in branches that bear fruit and those that don’t, with focus on how God is gracious to prune the branches that do bear fruit. She thought about what it looks like to abide in Christ practically.

We praise God for Sydney’s increasing spiritual hunger and her commitment to come to Conference with us! We hope and pray that God would use the context of this Conference to draw Sydney to turn from sin and trust in Jesus for her salvation.

Please Pray With Me

  • Personal: That I would find rest and refreshment in the Lord over this Christmas break.
  • Spring Semester Planning: That my Staff partner Caleb and I would have wisdom and diligence as we plan for next semester.
  • Georgetown Students: That God would compel many Georgetown students to consider Christ this Christmas season. That He would stir in their hearts and compel them to trust and follow Jesus.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from CO Georgetown!

HAVE A BLESSED 2019
